lake district residence
Creo’s clients expressed a desire to have a fun backyard for their 3-year-old toddler and 9-month-old to grow into, but also an adult lounge where they could entertain and relax. They didn’t want to construct typical play structures that they feared would eventually be ignored once the novelty wore off. Creo used this opportunity to design integrated sculpture into the landscape by using playful angular berms within a simple and modern design. This helped to set the stage for play throughout, while also functioning as an adult garden with dining and seating areas. The use of no-mow grass and angular berms contrasted against a flat lawn panel add an interesting element for the children to run over, around, hide behind and play on. Use of crushed gravel and recycled brick paving, linear redwood benches with toy storage, a new fence, and a mix of different drought-tolerant planting help to tie the space together and give it a crisp modern feel. Integrating play, sculptural, and entertaining space all in one.
